Queer China, 'Comrade' China

Since the start of China's dramatic social reforms, gender and sexual orientations are getting increasing public attention. Male sexism and heterosexual hegemony are confronted with severe challenges from feminism and queerness. Progress in sexual attitudes, behavior and media representations has been fumbling and stumbling its way over the past 30 years. Queer China, 'Comrade' China  traces the equal rights movement in China and highlights historical moments such as the decriminalisation and depathologising of homosexuality, and the change in the attitude of the general public and the media.
